Some top tips on how to stay healthy whilst travelling from a recent trip to the W Hotel in Amsterdam with Tara Stiles! - Words & Pictures by Kate...

When we are away on holiday it is hard to get out of the “must indulge” head frame. If you are anything like me then a few bottles of wine and a 3-course meal are the first things I think about when staying in a swanky hotel, however, we all know indulging too often takes it’s toll on your body.

On my latest expedition I was lucky enough to meet Tara Stiles which if you don’t know (you really should) is the founder of Strala Yoga, this style of yoga moves way beyond poses, it is a way of being, moving and healing. It helps you move in a way of which feels good and helps connect you with the way you feel. I had the advantage of joining Tara in two of her Strala Classes which are part of FIT at the W Hotel in Amsterdam which flips the traditional idea of working out on its head with a non-traditional way of working out while on the road and let me tell you, the experience was incredible and that’s coming from me, Miss bloody bone idle!

Pulled from my interview with Tara and some things that work for me, I’ve put together a few tips and tricks that can keep you fit and healthy on your jollies and you barely have to get off your arse...

1. Keep your meals clean and simple, always take water wherever you go. A few healthy snacks are great to have to hand too.

2. Walk. If where you’re going is walk-able then do it, think twice about taking a taxi or getting in your car.

3. Take part in a class like Strala Yoga, it’s extremely relaxing and winds you down after a long day of sight seeing.

4. Fill your room with healthy produce. Head to the nearest grocery store and stock up on fruit and veg to snack on instead of the sweet treats in your mini fridge.

5. Pick a hotel with an inviting Gym, the W Amsterdam gym is beautiful and very pleasing on the eye. You don’t exactly have to do a full blown workout, but maybe just sitting in the gym and doing some simple stretches and Yoga moves can pump you up for the day ahead. There are plenty of 10 minute workouts on Tara’s Youtube channel!

FIT at W Hotels takes the boredom out of slogging it out on the treadmill. Teaming up with Tara Stiles they have created new ways to workout whilst travelling, some of which include sunset and sunrise Yoga, all based in beautiful locations, Yoga and Sightseeing at the same time…What’s not to love? No matter your age, gender or lifestyle anyone can #posewhenever.

Fab post! Definitely going to check Tara out, I love taking yoga and other types of classes held at the hotel gym! Especially things like sunset yoga! I always find it difficult to eat healthily on holiday because I’m often with people and we go out a lot and it’s often easier/cheaper to go for the unhealthy bits. In saying that though, if I’m in a warm country with amazing fruits, I love to take advantage of them and have about a zillion smoothies and often snack on fruit if possible!

    Great tips, Thanks!

Thank you for your lovely comment Josie 🙂 I completely agree, it’s lovely to have fresh fruit on holiday! I love to swim and walk a lot too so even if it’s gentle exercise it’s still something! 🙂 x

I always go crazy when I am on holiday. I love going to India and their food is really rich in cream and syrup which means I come back double in size. However, I make sure I am always walking wherever I am going to try and walk off my heavy meals. I definitely need to be a bit more careful in my next trip.
