As adidas launch their exciting new #BornOriginal duo, the story behind the fragrances is unrelieved; both fragrances are unique with an explosive mix of contrasting notes; like scratched hip hop tracks or graffiti throw-ups, the individual elements combine to make bold expressions of urban culture. Brand endorsers for the new fragrance include Californian born model Charlotte Carey and DJ Mike Van As – each ambassador sells their story and why the fragrance makes them feel born original.
Now it’s time to sell my story.
Just under three months ago I split up with my boyfriend of six years, it was hands down the worst period of my life. I never knew heartbreak until that point, but then again I never knew how a lot of feelings until that point. The first few weeks were the hardest, I felt like I was sleep walking, all I could think was how could this be happening to me? I kept waiting for everything to return to normal, but it never did. I knew it was over and I had to live up to it and face the music.
Talking of music, during this time all I did was listen to music. Dealing with a break up is really hard emotionally, people tell you how you should be feeling and what you should be doing but only you know how to cope with what’s happened. After a few days of complete numbness I knew it was time to pick myself up, dust myself off and head back to work and the real world. I’d sit on the train and pop my headphones in, and for two hours a day the music was what carried me through.
One band in particular helped me more than they could ever know; Twin Atlantic. I’d always been a fan of their music but hadn’t listened to them all that much up until that point. Their song Brothers and Sisters, Hold On and Free instantly became my favourites and I felt really connected to them. You know when you listen to a song and you just get it? That’s how I felt with Brothers and Sisters – the lyrics below rang so true to me, I’d listen to the song and smile – I’d remember that it’s okay to not be okay sometimes and I knew the future held big things for me.
“I’m talking to the liars and cheaters, the ones who hide the truth to deceive us, there’s nothing wrong with being a dreamer, so where are you now?”
After a month long trip to Thailand and Malaysia and returning last week, I did a quick two day turnaround of unpacking, washing and re-packing and headed to Reading Festival for the weekend with my best friend. I’d been looking forward to the festival since I bought tickets at the beginning of the year, some of my favourite bands would be playing and I couldn’t wait to see Catfish and the Bottlemen, The Libertines and The Wombats to name a few.
But on Saturday evening, an absolute game changer happened and I got to watch Twin Atlantic – ever since I’d been listening to them more and more I honestly couldn’t wait to watch them live. All day I couldn’t contain my excitement and as 9.10pm rolled around on the 29th of August it was my time to be born again.
Nearing the end of their set, on the second to last song I heard the beginning of Brothers and Sisters and genuinely had goosebumps, hearing the song live was everything I hoped it would be and more. With my hands in the air and not a care in the world – I sang every word like I meant it and walked out of the tent feeling more alive than I ever had.
I was born through music.
It’s funny, how music or something you feel so strongly connected to can change everything for you. Sometimes all we need is a little perspective on life. Find that thing in life that you feel so passionate for that nothing else matters and let yourself be born original!
I packed the fragrance with me to Reading as a gentle reminder to myself that it’s my time to shine, and to be re-born – time to start a fresh and create new adventures. I’ve now officially started my full time blogging career and I hope to travel lots more in the near future, the world really is my oyster and it’s time to explore that for myself. The Born Original For Her fragrance plays around a vibrant sweet candy apple accord and smells delicious – definitely a beautiful scent to be added to your perfume collection this autumn!
Tell me how you’ve been born original – I’d love to hear your stories! If you haven’t experience that moment yet, it will come – in the meantime take a look at the adidas Born original to find out how the ambassadors where born!
