A few weeks back I put together a post on my top 5 tips on how to run a successful blog so I thought I’d put together some pointers on how to grow your social media audience and run successful channels. Again, as I mentioned in the post above it’s all about what you define at ‘successful’ for some it’s all about having 20K followers but others treasure engagement and comments so it’s just about finding what works for you. My goal this year was to reach 15K and I’m nearly at 10 already on Instagram which I’m really pleased with, I thought I’d share some tips on how I got there!…

Engage with your followers: This one is important for me as I always like to take time to reply to comments on my channels where I can, I make a conscious effort to check my Twitter and Instagram feed daily so I can get back to any questions or compliments. I also like to follow any blogs or followers back that catch my eye, it’s nice to comment and engage on their images also to build a loyal following.

Find your style/ niche: I recently mentioned in a few posts before that around Christmas time I decided to take some time out of blogging and really find out what it was that I wanted from it and work out the route I wanted to take, since then I’ve started doing a lot more lifestyle, travel and blog advice posts which I’ve really been enjoying. Since finding a style that has worked for me I’ve incorporated that into my social channels so it stays in theme with my blog.

Most at popular times: You can use software to monitor when are the most popular post times are, I use Buffer for Twitter and Iconosquare for Instagram – it’s great to see what posts had the most likes and engagement then go from there. I tend to post in the morning between 8-9am, lunchtime between 12-1.30 and after 7pm as they seem to be the best times for me to post, I do also find mid afternoon around 3-4 quite popular also, it’s about finding out when works for you and your followers.

Update regularly: Make sure you keep your feeds updated regularly to keep followers interested and engaged in your content. I tend to post 2/4 times a day on Instagram and up to 10 times a day on Twitter as the ‘tweet life’ is only around 2-3 minutes as it’s such an active platform. I’m working on focusing on my Facebook and Pinterest as I’ve neglected these platforms a tad so it’s something I need to work on and update regularly.

Make sure your content is ‘you’: Once you’ve discovered your niche (previous point) then make sure your content is fitting to your style, I like to keep my images bright and use a lot of white/pastel as that suits my style of imagery, I prefer to stick to my ‘style’ to keep my feeds consistent rather than posting stuff that isn’t me just to gain followers. Look at your blog as a brand and keep your posts in line with your theme.

Work out what channels you want to use: Don’t spread yourself too thinly when it comes to social media, if you can have 2 or 3 social channels and do them really well then great, don’t sign up to 7 different platforms that you struggle to keep update, it’s quality over quantity! There’s so many channels to choose from now including Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, Facebook and even Vine and Snapchat. Be selective and create great content which you can maintain and post consistently.

I hope you found this post useful! What methods works best for you when growing your channels?

This was such a helpful post, thank you so much! I find my Twitter is a lot easier to build up a following on and Instagram is a lot slower but your tip on posting 3/4 times a day will hopefully help as I only post once a day at the moment! I've also just downloaded Iconosquare!

Ahh I'm so glad to hear that Jasmine! 🙂 It's definitely quality over quantity so don't pressure yourself to post too much if you don't have anything to post, I'm just addicted to it so I'm forever having something to share haha! xx
