First things first, it all depends on what you define as ‘successful’ – for me it’s not about page stats and followers (although it’s always lovely to see them increasing) but touching comments from my readers are what makes blogging worth while for me. The other day someone commented on my Instagram saying “I love your blog! I came across it and your blog advice has been helping me so much, I’ve been enjoying blogging so much more lately” – things like that really make me smile and feel so proud that my hard work has paid off, because of you guys.

I don’t class my blog as a ‘big’ blog but there isn’t a day that goes by where I don’t take a moment to realise how lucky I am to be doing what I love, I’ve worked with some incredible brands, built great relationships and made some friends for life, and for that reason, I’ll never take my blog for granted, ever. I’d thought I’d put together some top tips on how to run a successful blog…

Network: This point is so key to running a blog, carry your business cards with you and chat to every blogger, PR, photographer and social influencer you meet. I always love meeting new bloggers and people to work with, it’s great to connect with other like minded creatives too!

Be organised: Always try to stay on top of your blog and social media schedules, that way it frees up more time for attending events, liaising with brands and bloggers and having some free time. Readers always like consistency from bloggers, if you’re going to commit to 3 new posts a week at 6pm, make sure you stick to it as it looks professionally and satisfies your readers, I don’t commit to a set time or amount of posts a week as find blog posts come easier when I’m being productive and not under too much pressure.

Say ‘yes’: I always try to say yes to as many opportunities as possible, whether it’s a blogger meet up, event, or project – it’s great to constantly build on your blog portfolio and the variety of brands you work with. Also, you never know where any opportunity may take you, it could lead to amazing things so I always try to do as much as I can within reason.

Engage with your readers: Again, another important one for me – every weekend I set aside an hour and go through and reply to all of my blog comments and every day or two on my Instagram and social media accounts. For me it’s important to engage with your followers, replies to any questions they have or even just thank them for taking the time to comment. It always means the world to me when a blogger replies to me so I always do the same.

Give something back: Lately I’ve been working on lots of blog, social media and PR advice blog posts and I’ve had an overwhelming response from them, it’s such a great feeling when content is so well received. I absolutely love doing these types of posts and it’s great to know that I’m giving something back and helping other bloggers in the process. Another great way to give something back is to host a giveaway for your followers!

What are your top tips for running a successful blog? I hope this post helped!

I've been reading a lot of posts on how to run a successful blog, and tips to get more readers, and ways to optimize your SEO, and photo tips – basically everything under the sun to showcase my blog. I've read the same tips over and over again and while they're all great they don't appeal to me. As soon as I read your opening line I immediately connected, not just with this post but with you as well. It's easy to get caught up in the numbers but if you don't have the genuine engagement then I feel as though the numbers don't really mean as much. This was the first post I've read on your blog but I can tell you for sure that it won't be the last. Thank you so much!

Wow Mackenzie, what a lovely comment – thank you SO much for leaving! I 100% agree, I always used to beat myself up over the fact I never had enough followers but then I realised it's not all about followers and I feel that when I got over that it all started to make sense to me and I soon realised what was important to me when blogging! Engagement and interacting with my followers means so much more! xx
