LIFESTYLE: WINTER WARMER TIPS WITH JOHN LEWIS

Today’s post is something a little different; I’m talking about tips on how I relax before bed to ensure I get a good nights sleep. I feel like it’s really important to have some ‘down time’ before bed – I’m one of those people that always has a million tabs open in my head and that’s not ideal when it’s 1am and I have to get up at 6am for work the next day. I split my time between working in London for a beauty PR company and blogging, on top of that I spend my time planning posts, scheduling social media and juggling extra jobs – being self employed has its perks but it’s also pretty full on!
Come and take a journey with me to find out how I relax:
1.) Getting cosy: In the winter evenings I love nothing more than sitting on the sofa/in bed being wrapped up in a big faux throw and enjoying some down time, whether this is binging on Netflix, catching up on my latest YouTube channels or chatting to some lovely blogging pals on social media. I love being comfy and this *John Lewis Faux Fur Throw  and *John Lewis Faux Fur Cushion are going to be playing a big part in my snuggly winter evenings as they are just so soft and warm!
2.) Jotting everything down: I find in the evenings when my brain feels like it’s going 100 miles per hour and I just can’t switch off I find the best thing to do is pick up a notepad and jot everything down. Being a creative worker I find that I’m more productive in the evenings, which is not so great when I’m trying to sleep. I always keep a notebook by my bedside table so I can get any ideas on paper, that I way I can rest assured I won’t fall asleep and have forgotten my ideas in the morning – they are all safe and ready to be turned into action! 
3.) Being comfy: I prefer to sleep in nothing (not sure if thats TMI, sorry!) but before going to bed you’ll always find me in super comfy pjs, my fluffy bear onesie or comfy lounge wear – it’s such a nice feeling to have a warm bath and put something comfy on to help you relax for bed. Right now I can’t get enough of this cosy Missguided chunky knit – it’s so warm and I can see it getting a lot of wear this winter!

4.) Having a hot drink: I don’t drink typical ‘builders’ tea or coffee – I’m not really sure I just never have and don’t really like either. My warm evening drink of choice is either a hot chocolate, green tea or a fruit tea to wind down in the evening. It’s so nice to snuggle in bed with a hot drink and to just have a few minutes of taking your mind off things, how cute is this *John Lewis ‘Where there is tea there is hope’ mug? It’s by a brand called Wild & Wolf available at John Lewis – I had a look at their range earlier and their stuff is so nice, might have to get myself another mug! 
5.) Not setting an alarm: On a weekends (particularly Sunday) it’s so nice to go to sleep and not set an alarm, it allows your body to fully catch up on any sleep you were missing out on – I don’t know if it’s just me but I always find I go to sleep so much easier too when I know I don’t have anything to get up for. My body clock usually wakes me up between 8.30-10am if I don’t set an alarm – I love a weekend lie in! For weekdays when I do need to set an alarm I’ll be using this slate grey *John Lewis Heritage Alarm Clock from now on, it goes perfectly with my new room decor too!

I hope these tips on how I relax have helped you if you also find it difficult to switch off of an evening! A few other favourites of mine are to have a hot bubble bath, reading a good book to help switch off and also talking to Rob and catching up on each others days – it’s nice to talk to someone else and hear about their day as it distracts you from an overload of your own thoughts.
