Last week I took Rob for a night away to Brighton for his birthday – it’s one of our favourite places to go and I treasure so many happy memories of us there I knew it was the perfect place for a celebratory trip. We visited Brighton for our second year anniversary (I think? It’s our five year this July and they are all rolling into one!) and we had an amazing meal at Browns restaurant and it’s always seemed to stick in my mind ever since.
As it was Rob’s birthday I knew that I wanted to take him for a ‘nice’ meal and decided that Browns was the perfect place for us to go! It’s the kind of place you can stroll in off the street and have a lovely lunch or head there in the evening dressed up for cocktails and you won’t feel overdressed. For our meal I wore my new Missguided x Nicole pencil skirt (which may have been a mistake as we ate so much I had to slyly unzip it haha!) with a black cami and chunky block heels – more on that soon in an outfit post.
Now I’m the most indecisive person ever when it comes to ordering food, I always have 2 or 3 options in my head and I have to make a split decision as the waiter comes over otherwise I’ll just never decide! Usually the second I’ve ordered I change my mind or regret my choice but this time I made the best choice for sure! I selected squid with a lemon and garlic dip which was incredible! – The portion was quite big so I was worried that it would fill me up too quickly but it was battered so lightly that it wasn’t too heavy which was great. Rob chose Prawn cocktail which he really enjoyed but he regretted his decision as he said a prawn cocktail is always a prawn cocktail no matter how it’s dressed up it just is what it is. As much as he said it was delicious he was perving over my starters for sure!
For my main course I chose cod with sauteed potatoes, mini quid and spinach which was so good! Even I surprised myself with my choices as maybe not even a year ago I would never dream of ordering fish in a restaurant – I just wasn’t a huge seafood fan. Since travelling Thailand (where I tried prawns, crab and sea bass I’m now a huge fan!). The cod was cooked to perfection and it fell apart so easily, the white wine sauce really complimented this dish. Also, how cute are those mini shrimps?!
Dessert time = the best time, correct? I have a massive sweet tooth and am usually caught scouting the dessert selection at a restaurant before I’ve even thought about my main course! I just want to clarify that both of those deserts weren’t mind (I may love dessert but not that much!) – I had warm chocolate brownie with ice cream *drools* and Rob had salted caramel cheesecake. Both desserts where absolutely delicious and we were well and truly stuffed after the meal (we genuinely had to sit there for about an hour before we could head out to some pubs for a cheeky drink, haha!).
Browns in situated in the heart of the South lanes and is a stones throw from the seafront, shops and bars/pubs/clubs. Brighton has amazing nightlife and there is always such a good vibe – everyones out for a good time which is how a night out should be – I’m from essex and it doesn’t always run that smoothly you see! This was our second visit to Browns and we enjoyed it just as much as the first, it’s definitely somewhere that I’d head back to next time I’m in Brighton for sure as the food, service and value for money is top notch!
Have you been to Browns before? They have lots of restaurants all over the UK so be sure to check out there other locations here.
*Many thanks to Browns restaurant for hosting me & Rob for the most amazing meal!
