Sorry I’ve been away for a while, Final Major Project is all handed in now and I’ve just picked up my new Macbook Pro (whoo) so i’ll be back to blogging on a regular basis now which I’m super excited about!
I haven’t done a beauty post for a while so I thought I’d show you what’s in my make up bag! I got this Ted Baker make up bag for Christmas from my dad which I love, it’s big enough to fit all of my favourite pieces in and more which is great!
To be honest this is most of my make up collection (bad beauty blogger *slaps wrist*), I’ve been picking up quite a few more bits lately so it has grown quite a bit, plus I have some eye/lip palettes which aren’t in this post. However, when I move home for summer I’ll be re-decorating my room so i’ll do a post on my storage and make up collection for ya’ll 🙂
Lets get going…
I received this ‘Smashbox Photo Finish Primer’ from a party that I attended when Smashbox laucnhed in the UK, and to be honest I’ve never looked back. I’m the type of person that when I find something I love and that really works for me I tend to stick to it rather than trying other products, (naughty I know) but I can honestly say this is the best primer that I’ve ever tried and it makes your skin feel amazing!
I’ve been using the ‘Clinique Line Smoothing Concealer’ for yearsssss now, and when I say years I mean since I was about 16 as I can remember this being the first ‘high-end’ piece of make up that me and my best friend brought – it was greatly treasured as you can imagine! Anywho, I love this for under the eyes and it’s not too thick, it’s also great to use as concealer for spots too.
(I’ve recently added the ‘Collection’ concealer in shade Medium to my collection which is amazing for concealing spots at the coverage is thick – in a good way! I think it was around £3.69 which you really can’t complain at, I’ll definitely be re-purchasing!)
I use the ‘Mac Studio Fix’ in shade NW30, although it’s on it’s last legs *sniff* so I need to buy some more, it costs £20.50 which I don’t think is too bad for a high end brand foundation – and it is AMAZING! A little while back I wanted a new foundation but was stuck for what to buy so I asked some bloggers on twitter and several people recommended this to me so I thought I’d give it a go and love it!
If it’s winter and I’m slacking on the tan front then I tend to use ‘Catrice Skin Finish Compact Powder’ over my foundation. I do tend to use a powder/bronzer just because my skin is quite naturally oily so it takes away the shine. I got this powder at the Global fashion Awards – I won tickets last year and they were giving away make up in the toilets, how amazing? So I stocked up on some Catrice bits and have been genuinely impressed by the brand!
The ‘H&M Bronzing Powder’ is a make up bag must-have for me, I actually picked up some more yesterday as I just ran out! It’s only £4.99 and lasts forever (well it seems that way!) It’s great value and seems to be the perfect bronzer for me, I have tried various other but have never found one that I love as much as this one!
Next up is the ‘Catrice Prime and Fine highlighting Powder’ this is the most gorgeous pinky/peachy shade and I love to pop it just along the top of my cheek bones, my brow bone and down my nose. Especially in the summer when you have a tan it just gives you a great glow.
Lastly ‘Benefit Hollywoodglo’ has been in my make up bag forever – as you can tell by the picture it looks like it’s seen better days! I’ve had this highlighter for what seems an age, and it has lasted so well! The main reason being that you only need a tiny amount on each use so it’s just ended up lasting me so well. I really love this product along the top of my cheek bones as it gives a beautiful golden glow (another one perfect for holidays!)
First up is the ‘MUA’ blush which only costs a mere £1 from Superdrug, I don’t actually know the shade as I have used it up so it’s no longer in my make up bag! This blusher is great for £1, it’s not the best blusher I have used but it’s great for the value. It’s handy to keep in your make up bag and to use it on a daily basis and to save your better blushers for more exciting days!
I got sent this ‘Clarins Palette Eclat Face & Blush Powder’ to review, you can see my review on the Clarins SS13 collection here. I was so impressed with this blusher, first of all the packaging is just so beautiful to look at – almost didn’t want to use it at first! It gives a real peachy tone to the cheeks and is quite subtle, great if your focusing on your eye or lip make up one day. I’m also really keen to try this on holiday as it will look great with bronzed skin. I highly recommend trying this blusher if you haven’t already!
On the left is the ‘Clarins Eye Quartet Mineral Palette’ in shade ’10 – Iris Blossom’ if any of you have seen this palette you will understand how beautiful the colours are! I have to admit I’m not a big eye shadow girl – most mornings i’m in a rush so it’s normally just a slick of mascara and some eyeliner if your lucky. But being a girl, we all love to dress up so when it comes to a night out this is my go-to palette for a beautiful smokey eye look.
This ‘Oriflame Eyebrow Kit’ is a life saver! The kit comes with a gel which you apply onto your brows first then apply the powder after. It comes with a light brown and dark brown powder so you can build up your colour depending on your brows.
Now I’m going to whizz through the mascaras together as I don’t want to bore you all! 😉 My favourite has to be the ‘Clinique High Lengths Mascara’ this was a sample I received at christmas time when I brought my step mum some Clinique products and hands down it’s the best mascara i’ve used, I was really wary of the brush at first but when I started to apply it I couldn’t believe how good it is! I think the full size is around £14 and I really must pick some up soon! My second favourite is the ‘Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara’ it has a big wand and it great for big party lashes and I find it works wonders with my lashes!
The other two mascaras are ‘Catrice Lashes To Kill Mascara’ and ‘Soap & Glory Thick and fast Mascara’ both of which are great but what I tend to call my everyday mascara, they do the job fine but when I want super lashes I tend to go for my other two favourites.
The AKA cosmetics eyeliner is a great everyday eye pencil, I’m still yet to find an ‘amazing’ kohl eyeliner that actually stays put and doesn’t smudge under the eyes, if you guys have any recommendations please send them my way!
I picked up these eyelash curlers from Superdrug for a couple of pound and are a staple piece to my make up bag, I only recently started using them again but they make such a difference I couldn’t imagine not using them anymore!
And lastly, ‘Rimmel Eyebrow Pencil’ in shade ‘004 Black Brown’ which I use on a daily basis and picked up for around £4 which is great value. I use a brow pencil everyday as I’m currently growing them into a new shape and they aren’t quite how I want them yet so this pencil does the job for now.
Left to right: 1.) ‘Clarins Rouge Eclat in shade Nude Rose’, 2.) ‘Clarins Rouge Eclat in shade True Aubergine’ 3.) ‘Catrice – in shade I don’t know because my mum stole it!!’ 4.) ‘Smashbox in shade Legendary’ 5.) ‘Kate Moss for Rimmel in shade 01′ 6.) H&M in shade Simply Divine’ 7.) ‘New Kid Cosmetics in shade Very Cherry’ 8.) ‘Avon in shade Deep Orchid’
For everyday I tend to grab the Clarins Rouge Eclat in shade Nude Rose as it’s perfect for an everyday understated look. On a night out I do love a good red/purple lip with some fake lashes for an out there party look.
I’m not a massive lipstick wearer as I love a lipgloss or balm, but I seem to have a good collection and I now have quite a few more so I suppose I had better get back into wearing them! Once I graduate and start working I think I will be more experimental with make up, but at uni it’s always a rush in the morning so it’s usually just a slick of Vaseline or Carmex.
I’m keen to pick up a coral/ orange lipstick for the summer though as that will be a great shade to wear this season! If you have any favourite lipstick brands or shades then please holla as I’d love to try some more out! 🙂
I got this ‘Soap & Glory Sexy Mother Pucker’ lipgloss in a set from Christmas. It’s in shade ‘Punch Bowl’ and boy does it make your lips tingle!! It’s a really great high shine lipgloss which I love to use for nights out and would definitely buy again!
This ‘Pixi Tinted Brilliance Balm’ in shade ‘No.8 Bitten’ has to be one of my favourite lip products, it’s a lip balm but the colour pigment is quite strong so it’s more like a lipstick and stays put all day! You can pick it up from the Pixi store or online for around £12 which is great value as it lasts forever, you just twist it up every time you come to the end and it feels never ending! Two of my best friends used this a while back and are now keen to get their hands on one so I definitely recommend giving it a whirl!
I picked up the ‘Vaseline Pink Bubbly’ from Selfridges during a girly shopping trip as well it was pink and champagne flavoured so it seemed rude not to? I think it was around £2-£3 which I don’t mind paying as I will always have some vaseline hanging around in my handbag somewhere as it’s a dry-lip lifesaver!
Last up is the ‘No.7 Precision Lip Liner’ not entirely sure on the shade as I have used this one up and need to buy a new one! I really loved this lip liner and sometimes would just fill my lips in with this colour as it was the perfect berry shade for me, it was fairly cheap to buy and I’ll be re-purchasing soon and also checking out what summer shades they have in store too!
Sorry for the long post today guys, got a bit carried away talking make up!! I would really love some recommendations if you have any must-have pieces in your make up bag, I’m always open to new suggestions and love trying new products so just leave a comment below with what I need to try! 🙂
A full make up and collection post will be coming in the next month or so once my room is ready to rumble so look out for that as I’ll include my full collection and how I store it all.
I also have a mammoth nail varnish collection so I’m thinking of doing a post on that too, if that’s something you’d all like to see?
